the failure

So I think I can safely say that I failed my Lent challenge.

1. I made too many exceptions such as my recipe contest. I splurged for the best ingredients in the name of practicing.
2. Life works unfairly in my favour: I have a house to live in, I have in-house laundry facilities, and roommates who share their food, people who paid for me at restaurants, and so much more.
3. $6 a day for living costs is nearly impossible to do anyway. That is not an excuse for my failures, but a further realization that it is ridiculous that people must live this way.

I did spend way less money than I usually do. My bank account is a little happier, and that visa bill is just not as big as it usually is. Also I made some fantastic money saving bread like this.

crazy canucks

I stumbled upon this article today about the pioneering the eyeball tattoo. The Toronto man Pauly Unstoppable underwent the first eyeball tattoo attempting to turn his entire eyeball blue. If this crazy Canadian does not make your insides squirm, maybe taking a look at the tattoos of other folks will.

Thinking of getting a tattoo? Also linked to the page, a site that will help you make the decision whether or not to mark up your body...or maybe just things not to have permanently etched on your body. Check out the Bad Tattoos: A Gallery of Ink That Stinks which is where I found Jesus here.

from road rage to snow rage

I get that winter can be stressful, what with the cold temperatures, the inconvenience of your car not starting, not not being able to park in your regular spot because it is a snow route, but it looks like people are less and less able to deal with the volume of snow. I caught this news clip on CTV this afternoon as I ate my lunch. Later, I found this story from the CBC.

I have a neighbour like this where I live. He tried to stop city workers from clearing the streets in our neighbourhood last winter because his yard (on a corner) routinely got a lot of the pile up.

a confession

My first conscious cheat of this $6 a day challenge:

I went out for lunch with co-workers during a two day training session even though I didn't have enough in my budget for it. I went to DeLuca's for pasta with my co-workers. I ended up spending $10 for lunch, and regret ever penny of it as it was not nearly as good as what I was expecting.

2nd cheat of the week: I bought a $10 ticket to support a this band at their CD release party.

3rd cheat of the week: I bought wine to share for an evening, it was $10.
